For years I have been struggling with getting a complete technical description of computer systems I work on. I would end up using multiple applications to get everything I need.  In Windows, you can use System Information, but most of what it returns is complex, and looks like something only an engineer can love.

Lately I’ve been working with an application from Piriform called Speccy. This application can be downloaded for free (and for a donation) at http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download.

Speccy provides detailed information about 10 different areas of your computer including the operating system, CPU, RAM, Hard drives, and others. For example, under the operating system tab for my computer it tells me that that I have UAC disabled, the firewall is enabled, the name and version of the antivirus product I have installed and more.  Here is a screenshot of the Summary page.  It looks like I need to add another fan to my case...

Here is an screen shot of the Operating System page:

Speccy has versions for both the 32bit and 64bit editions of Windows. I have copied the executable files to my thumb drive so I can run it on any computer without needing to install it first. Its already picked up several problem areas on systems that need to be watched or fixed including a hard drive that was running too hot.
